Chamonix / Zermatt (7 days): Connecting both capitals of the alpinism

We are facing the most mythic skiing inroad in the Alpes, the dream of all country skiing lover that goes from Mont Blanc to Cervina crossing through the highest passes. It is a splendid route, unique among all existing routes. What is more, every evening you will have the pleasure of enjoying the comfort of the Suisse huts, real “hotels” hidden in the mountains.

In order to appreciate the inroad better, the number of participants is limited to six.

Departure day: from the 05th to the 11th of April 2015
Number of participants: 6 people
Difficulty: Medium /High. It is aimed to experienced skiers in freeriding and backcountry skiing. It is important to be in good physical conditions. Above this, alpinism (using crampons and ice axe) is going to be practiced.

Features: Throughout the route we will be staying in guarded comfortable refuges. It is recommended to bring light bags. The daily difference of height varies from 900 to 1300 metres.

Itinerario

Day 1: Chamonix – the Refuge of Argentière.
Arrival at Chamonix at midday. Ascent to Les Grands Montets (latest 15h00) by telecabine and descent to the glaciar of Argentière. Night at the Refuge og Argentière.

+ Variation of height: 200 m
- Variation of height: 1400 m

Day 2: the Refuge of Argentière – the Refuge of Trient
First difficulties of the inroad Chamonix/Zermatt begin. Ascent to the pass of Chardonnet.

+ Variation of height: 1200 m
- Variation of height: 800 m

Day 3: the Refuge of Trient – Prafleuri Hut
First descent to Arpette early in the morning in order to make the transfer by taxi to Verbier.
From this point there is the possibility of ascending Rosablanche (3336 m) and descending later to the hut of Prafleuri.

+ Variation of height: 1200 m
- Variation of height: 2800 m

Day 4: the Hut of Prafleuri – the Hut of Dix
This lap is easier, it consist of crossing the lake of Dix. After going through the pass of “Gato” there is little to the refuge.

+ Variation of height: 700 m
- Variation of height: 400 m

Day 5: the Hut of Dix – the Hut of Vignettes
It is the main lap of the route. We will first ascent to the very known Pigne d’Arolla (3730 m) so as to get to the refuge of Vignettes (3160 m), a real spot of eagles nestled on a rocky hillside with vertiginous slopes.

Day 6: the Hut of Vignettes – the Hut of Bertol
Route to the hut of Bertol (3331 m), which is with no doubt the nicest refuge of the inroad Chamonix/Zermatt.

+ Variation of height: 1300 m
- Variation of height: 1100 m

Day 7: the Hut of Bertol – Zermatt
La Tête Blanche (3724 m) summit is the last difficulty of this route. Once we get to the top, we have 2000 metres of descent to Zermatt with some spectacular views over the majestic Matterhorn. Return to Chamonix by taxi.
